CHALLENGE
Issue: This tank was leaking raw waste due to corrosion-induced perforations in the tank and suction was being lost due to ambient air entering the tank through the holes.
Goals:
- Stop all outflow of waste from escaping the tank
- Seal all holes and remain intact under high, negative pressure
- Prevent further corrosion of tank’s parent metal
Root Cause: Uninhibited contact between highly corrosive waste material and aluminum parent metal
SOLUTION
Preparation:
- Grit blast to Sa 2.5 with 3 mil angular profile
- Acetone decontamination to remove surface pollutants
Application:
- Apply ARCOR EE80 primer to trouble areas (welds, tight corners, etc.)
- Apply ARCOR 8507 at 120 mil to repair large pitting and holes
- Stripe over primer with ARCOR S20 to ensure full coverage of problem areas
- Apply full ARCOR S20 coating throughout the entirety of the internal tank lining
Results:
“We have used the truck; it pumps faster and has no leaks. Nobody has a crystal ball but I really think you get another 10 years of service out of that truck. It’s way better than what we used to have and way better than what it was before they repaired it.”
